In addition to native content distribution, the social media channels Facebook, LinkedIn and XING are currently being used for campaigns in the B2B environment. Slowly, however, marketers should also look at Instagram as an option. It was only in the summer that this channel cracked the 1 billion user mark.

Certainly, the number of users does not determine whether a channel is used or not. Facebook, with over 2.3 billion users, would be the non-plus ultra and no marketing campaign would be imaginable without it without it. But Instagram offers more – the interaction with users is higher – and so companies and brands can establish much easier contact with users and distribute their content faster. Basically, the user group on Instagram is much younger on average than on LinkedIn, for example – the strongest age segment in Germany is 20-24 year olds with around 4 million users. But the age segments “30-34” with just under 2.5 million users and “35-44” with around 2.8 million users show that the “older” target group is also on this channel. (Source: CrowdMedia).

Currently Instagram is mainly used for marketing purposes in the areas of fashion, lifestyle, beauty and design. Campaigns with a high visual appeal are being launched. But companies from other industries should also at least consider reaching new customers through this channel in the future, as long as they adapt their advertising message visually and place it correctly.
