Herausforderungen für den CIO

How digitization creates new challenges for the CIO

Since the digital “evolution”, the existence of IT and above all the role of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) has repeatedly been put to the test. New managers are often deployed to support the digital field of a company and the tasks are taken over by the newly implemented technologies, such as artificial intelligence. But this change also creates new and exciting areas of responsibility for CIOs.

The urge for centralization and consolidation usually comes at the expense of the CIOs, who have to reposition themselves in the long run in a new and meaningful way between all the newly established positions and the automation of processes. Therefore, it is important to actively involve the CIO in changes in all parts of the company.

A necessary change in the occupational field

In recent years, the CIO was primarily responsible for the further development of IT from a cost center to a revenue center. The modernisation of data centres, the consolidation of corporate IT and compliance with security and legal standards were mostly the main tasks.

However, these tasks are now often taken over by technologies such as automation and artificial intelligence and thus influence the importance of CIOs – although the professional profile moves away from the initial definition, it also becomes more complex, demanding and multi-faceted. In this contribution you can find out which competencies CIOs will have to push in the future.
